Hague Beckons Kenyan Journalist

The High Court in Nairobi has paved way for Hague-based court, the ICC, to arrest Kenyan journalist, Walter Baraza.

The High Court issued a warrant of arrest for the arrest for the 41 year old journalist who is facing an extradition case. The order was issued following an application by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Justice Richard Mwongo issued the warrant for Barasa’s arrest yesterday following an application lodged by Keriako Tobiko, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Barasa in August 2013. but under Kenyan law, the local authorities must obtain a warrant from a national court before arresting the suspect or extraditing him to The Hague.

The ICC’s prosecutors filed charges against Barasa for bribing and attempting to bribe witnesses in the case against Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto.
