KDF Flies Rio Olympic Marathon Winner Jemima Sumgong In A Military Plane Before Surprising Her With A Promotion (Photos)

Jemima Sumgong touched down at Moi Air Base like the real baus! KDF accorded her a presidential-like treat.

Jemima Sumgong won Kenya its first ever Olympic gold in women’s marathon. The closet Kenya had come to winning gold was in Athens and Beijing Olympics in 2004 and 2008 when the great Catherine Ndereba won silver.

Sumgong put up a spirited fight a fortnight ago to rub off competition from Eunice Jepkirui Kirwa (Kenyan born who now runs for Bahrain) who was on her trail all the way from the start to the finish of the race.

The Olympic winner was yesterday presented with gifts and a heroic welcome at Moi Air Base Nairobi when she touched down in company of her husband Noah Tallam and her son.

Sumgong was flown to the air force base in a military plane. KDF surprised her with promotion from Senior Private to Corporal.
