Langata prison express! Former senator Joy Gwendo sentenced to 2 years in prison

Former nominated Senator Joy Gwendo will now be a guest of the state for two long years. Gwendo has just been slapped with the prison term by anti-corruption court on Friday December 7th.

Anti-Corruption Court chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti sentenced Gwendo to two years in prison after she failed to honor plea bargain she entered with the state.

Gwendo had pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud; abuse of office and two others of issuing bad cheques. She entered a plea bargain with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) but failed to honor.

In the deal, Gwendo was to pay Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society Kes 1.7 million after she was found guilty of issuing bad cheques.

She issued the Kisumu sacco a Kes 300k cheque yet she knew there were insufficient funds. The nominated senator also issued another cheque of Kes 950k which bounced.

On abuse of office, Gwendo was found guilty of conferring herself a whopping Kes 2.2 million using her position as a state officer.
