Aden Duale discusses KDF compensation when a soldier dies

Defence CS Aden Duale has disclosed the amount of money paid to families of KDF officers who die in the line of duty.

  • Families of officers who die while serving in Kenya receive Sh4 million.
  • Families of officers who die while serving in peace missions outside Kenya receive Sh11.4 million, including an additional Sh7.4 million from the African Union and the United Nations.

The payments are usually released within 30 days of the officer’s death. In addition to the financial compensation, families also receive support in terms of counselling, psychological support, empowerment initiatives, and reskilling programmes.

Duale said that every soldier who dies while on duty is also memorialized and given recognition.
