At Least 3 Killed In Al-Shabab Ambush In Mandera

At least three people, including two police officers, were killed in an ambush by al-Shabab militants in Mandera County on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at Tarbi area in Guba Ward along the Banisa-Rhamu road. The police officers were on escort duties and were escorting a PSV bus when they were hit by an improvised explosive device (IED).

Five other police officers were injured in the attack. The third person killed was a local road engineer who had apparently hitched a ride on the police vehicle.

The terrorists behind the attack escaped. Mandera County Commissioner Amos Mariba said the injured officers are receiving treatment at Banisa Sub County Referral Hospital.

The attack is the latest in a series of deadly attacks by al-Shabab in Mandera County. The group has been active in the area for many years and has carried out a number of attacks on security forces and civilians.

The Kenyan government has vowed to crack down on al-Shabab, but the group has continued to pose a threat to security in the region.

The attack is a reminder of the dangers that still exist in Mandera County and the need for continued vigilance. It is also a tragedy for the families of the victims, who have lost loved ones in the violence.
