Court set Yesu wa Tongaren free due to lack of evidence

Eliud Wekesa, colloquially known as Yesu wa Tonregan has been released by the courts due to lack of evidence to proceed with any prosecution. He walked out of court on Tuesday, 16th of May, uncharged after the prosecution said that they had no evidence to support their case.

The head of the New Jerusalem Church, Mr. Wekesa, was detained by police for five days while they looked into accusations of crimes against him, including involvement in a cult.

He was charged with leading a religious cult in Tongaren while posing as Jesus Christ, indoctrinating his followers—some of whom are minors—with extremist views, and engaging in and encouraging money laundering.
