DJ Brownskin’s bail hearing adjourned to today

DJ Brownskin, who was last week charged with abetting his wife’s suicide, will today know if he will be granted bail.

Brownskin, whose real name is Michael Macharia Njiiri, was accused of aiding the suicide of his wife, Sharon Njeri, last year. He spent the weekend in custody after the ruling on his bond was adjourned because a pre-bail report was not ready.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina was on Thursday due to make the ruling, but the prosecution requested more time, arguing that the pre-bail report was not ready. Onyina directed the case to come up today when the report will be ready for the bond ruling.

On Wednesday, the same court declined to allow DJ Brownskin’s application in which he sought to have the DCIO Kasarani summoned to court for contempt. Through his lawyer Duncan Okatch, the DJ had requested that DCIO Kasarani Jimmy Kimaru be summoned to appear in court for breaching court orders that released him before a Makadara court last week.

However, in a ruling by Onyina, the court said that it could not establish any offense of contempt since the court orders alleged to have been violated were issued by Makadara Law Courts which has equal jurisdiction. Brownskin was remanded at the Industrial area prison.

Meanwhile, the Sh588 million corruption case against former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu will today resume for hearing before Milimani anti-corruption court magistrate Thomas Nzyoki.
