“Fake lawyer” Brian Mwenda’s bail hearing set for today

Brian Mwenda’s legal team will present their case for bail this morning. Mwenda was accused of posing as a High Court counsel and was placed under custody at the Industrial Area Detention.
His release on bail had been disputed by the prosecution and the Kenyan Law Society. According to the prosecution, Mwenda posed a flight risk and might elude capture if granted bail.

Today, the Kibera Law Courts will hear a case involving three men who are accused of having wildlife trophies valued at Sh2.5 million. The three are charged with unlawfully owning five 25 kg elephant trophies in a grey Nissan vehicle. The alleged offence took place in Nairobi County on September 18, 2017.

In a related matter, today High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi will determine whether a hiring agency has followed the law in a case where the agency was sued for exploiting a PR graduate’s picture to advertise housemaid employment in the Gulf.
Mugambi had instructed Yvonne Maina to serve the agency with her lawsuit documents and request that the agency file its reply by today.

Maina filed the lawsuit, claiming that the company’s usage of her photos led to people believing—falsely—that she was or is employed as a house girl in collaboration with the business as its brand ambassador. She claims she was made fun of for this.
