Kelvin Kiptums Father Emotional After Losing His Only Son

With a sorrowful heart and an emotionally charged voice, Cheruiyot thought back on the incalculable loss of his cherished son, Kelvin Kiptum.

He thought back with nostalgia to his final chat with Kiptum, who had exuded optimism and hope for the future.

On Saturday night, I talked to him and he told me that he would go to Fluospar and return home. When he returned, he told me that a man (a white man) would come to build us a house.

“He also told me that he would run for 1 hour 58 minutes (in the upcoming race) because he felt his body was in great shape,” Kiptum’s father told the press.

Kiptum’s goals and desires, especially their intention to construct a house for their family, were the main topic of conversation.
He claimed that after receiving word of his son’s accident on his cell phone, he headed in the direction of the collision.

“Kiptum was my only child. Now he has left me and my grandchildren. I do not know what to do. If the government can, it should help us. We are stuck now with no one who can help us,” he said.

But by the time he arrived, Kiptum and his coach Garvais Hakizimana had already been carried to the mortuary with their dead.

Cheruiyot further disclosed that, only four days prior to Kiptum’s tragic demise, their home was paid a visit by anonymous persons whose intentions were still unclear.

In the midst of his intense sadness over losing his son, Cheruiyot is left with unresolved questions following this encounter.
