Kenyan Users of Remotasks cannot access the online gig site

An online platform facilitating remote task completion and payment has withdrawn from the Kenyan market, leaving users greeted with an error message upon attempting to access the Remotasks website.

Remotasks, which has garnered popularity among young unemployed Kenyans and those seeking remote or part-time work opportunities, facilitated tasks delegated by various companies to Remotaskers, aiding in their completion.

Tasks were categorized into six classifications, including copywriting, media labeling, and AI model training, with users compensated in US dollars through online platforms like PayPal based on task complexity and acceptance.

Last week, users received emails notifying them of Remotasks’ cessation of operations in Kenya effective March 8, 2024, along with off-boarding from current projects and payment processing for completed work.

The platform gained attention earlier in January when a viral video showcased a Kenyan citizen discussing his successful experience with Remotasks, earning over $200, which he shared during an interaction with President William Ruto.

For now, attempts to access Remotasks result in an error message indicating blocked access to the website.
