Man “Smoking Drugs” Falls to His Death in Eastleigh

A 32-year-old man died after falling from the eighth floor of a hotel in Nairobi while trying to escape a smoking ban.

Adam Rashid had been staying in the room for two days with a friend when cleaners saw smoke coming from the room and went to investigate. They found the two men smoking an unknown substance believed to be drugs.

The cleaners informed the hotel manager, who told the men that smoking was not allowed in the hotel and that he would call the police. Smoking drugs on hotel property is also illegal.

The manager then locked the door to the room, trapping the two men inside. Rashid tried to escape through the window, but he stepped on a skylight roof, which fractured and caused him to fall to the second floor.

He was taken to Sakina Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police who responded to the scene found a white substance in the room that they believe to be cocaine. Rashid’s friend was questioned and released on bail pending further investigation.

The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Mason Killed by Falling Stone at Construction Site

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old mason was killed when a stone fell on his head at a construction site in Nairobi’s Kahawa West neighborhood.

Zijenga Wycliffe Ochuo was among a group of masons working on the fifth floor of a building when a stone fell from above and hit him in the head. He was rushed to KU Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
