Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza Impeached Yet Again

Meru County governor Kawira Mwangaza faced a 2nd impeachment with 59 out of 69 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) voting for her impeachment.

The motion, which was tabled by Majority Leader Evans Mawira, accused Mwangaza of gross violations of the Constitution and County Government Act, particularly in relation to the use and management of public resources. Mawira cited allegations of misappropriation and misuse of county funds, nepotism, usurpation of the roles of the Meru County Public Service Board, contempt of the Assembly, incitement of violence, and bullying and demeaning of other leaders, including her deputy governor, Mutuma M’nthinkia.

These allegations also include fraudulent funding and unrightfully employing family members and inclusion of relatives on a foreign trip while misrepresenting them as a ‘technical team’.

“We will not grant the interim orders herein now. Will need to consider all the submissions made by all parties. will render the ruling on the application for conservatory orders on Friday,” the Judges ruled.

The motion also accused Mwangaza of fraudulently funding the employment of her family members and misrepresenting them as a technical team on a foreign trip.

The mover of the motion said that impeaching Mwangaza was the best gift they could give to the governor and the people of Meru County, as her continued stay in office had undermined effective service delivery and gravely hurt their interests.
