NIBS Founder Lizzie Wanyoike Passes Away

Kenyan education and business icon Lizzie Wanyoike, founder of the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS), Emory Hotel, and Lizzie Preparatory Schools, sadly passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 72.

Wanyoike was widely admired for her dedication to education and empowerment. Her journey began with a Diploma in Education from Kenyatta University, after which she established the Temple College of Secretarial Studies in Nairobi with a vision to guide young women and advocate for their educational advancement. This spirit of nurturing potential blossomed into the impressive network of institutions she later founded, impacting countless lives across Kenya.

“In loving memory of a remarkable educator,” reads the family’s touching eulogy. “Her passion ignited minds, her kindness touched hearts. A beacon of wisdom, she left an indelible mark on countless lives, shaping futures with grace.”

Wanyoike’s tireless efforts earned her immense respect and admiration. News of her passing was met with an outpouring of condolences from Kenyans across various sectors. Kameme FM presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba, one of the first to share the news, posted on Facebook: “Rip, Madam Liz wanyoike- Nibs college. Cancer will also Die!!!! Dance with the angels.”

Born in November 1951, Wanyoike embarked on a remarkable journey, starting with a successful career in education. Following her divorce, she combined her savings and a loan to build her first educational institution, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to education and personal growth. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to social impact soon led to the establishment of NIBS, Emory Hotel, and Lizzie Preparatory Schools, each one testament to her vision and resilience.
