Raila’s daughter Rosemary Odinga: Am struggling to adapt to new changes, I lost my sight during my illness

On Tuesday November 27th 2018, Rosemary Odinga made first public appearance for the first time in two years. The former prime minister’s daughter was last seen in public while she was contesting for Kibra parliamentary seat.

Rosemary however bowed out of the race after she became sick and was forced to travel to South Africa for treatment. In April 2017, she appeared in a video explaining to her supporters why she withdraw her candidature.

Raila’s daughter suffered a mild stroke leading to her hospitalisation in South Africa in February 2017. She returned to the country in May last year.

Struggling to cope

On Tuesday Rosemary presided over an event at Raila Educational Centre in Kibera. She partnered with a Korean NGO to donate 60 sewing machines for vocational training in Kibra to help women hoping to join textile industry.

Rosemary also spoke about her situation during the event, saying that;

“I am still struggling to adapt to the new changes, having lost my sight during my illness. I have had support from everybody around me for which I am very grateful. I will continue to do what my heart most desires – to empower women in our country.”
