Louis Otieno talks about how the passing of Careen Chepchumba changed him

On February 12, 2012, the lifeless body of Careen Chepchumba, a 26-year-old Kenya Power employee at the time, was discovered in her residence at Santonia Court in Kilimani, Nairobi.

Media personality Louis Otieno was implicated in having a romantic involvement with Careen, leading to him being identified as a primary suspect in her death.

In an interview with Lynn Ngugi, Louis now expresses that he was deprived of the opportunity to grieve for his friend.

“Those who harbor negative feelings towards me never truly knew me or followed any information about me. When they aimed to portray me in a negative light, they falsely suggested she was a minor (underage). It was extremely challenging. Irene was 26 years old and was employed,” Louis shared.

He mentioned that their interactions were mainly at work. “I am saddened because I missed the chance to mourn my friend.”

Louis asserts that if he were responsible for Chepchumba’s demise, he would have faced arrest. “I wanted to understand how to close this case, and they said I needed to provide my DNA. I wasn’t afraid because I wasn’t involved. It’s dehumanizing what they do to you.”

He reveals that at one point, he was asked to surrender all his vehicles, a request he declined after the police failed to provide an official letter for such action.
