Jasper Murume: My uncle used a cheeky way to kicking me out of his home and come to Nairobi

Comedian Jasper Mwongera also known as Jasper Murume has revealed how he became a comedian and he has his uncle to thank for that.

Speaking on Radio Jambo in Massawe Japanni’s show, the comedian said that he joined comedy after his uncle pushed him but little did he know that his uncle was just looking for a way to kick him out of his house and make a man out of him.

“I had the determination to do comedy just like everyone else and so I had to hustle hard. I went for auditions and it all started when I used to do crazy comedy with the likes of Fred Omondi, then I got the right contacts and I got to learn about Churchill Show auditions. Finally I went and Victor Ber gave me a shot but it did not go as planned.” he said.

Pushed

Though things failed to fall in place, his uncle kept pushing him till eventually, he managed to make a name in the tough industry.

“I was encouraged by my uncle to actually go back and audition again. He told me; “Mwongera can you take your things and go back to Nairobi. I don’t know what you are doing here, you are very talented. Other people are making it in Nairobi, look at people like Eric (Omondi) they are millionaires right now. You need to go back and show me what you got.” he said.

Adding:

“Looking back I came to realize my uncle used a cheeky way of actually kicking me out of his home.

‘I have so far smoked more that 166,000 cigarettes’ confesses Radio Jambo presenter

How many packets of cigarettes do you smoke in a day? Whatever the number, you need to stop.

Comedian turned Radio Jambo presenter Terrence Macharia had to learn this the hard way after getting hooked on cigarettes for almost 22 years.

The comedian, who hosts “JAMBOMASSAWE” alongside Massawe Japanni opened up about smoking over 166,000 cigarettes in those 22 years. He has spent a total of 800,000 shillings on cigarettes.

“I remember some of my ‘friends’ who wanted to me to offer my creative services to them used to say ‘huyu usimpee pesa, bora uende na fegi atakuskiza’ That’s how low I could stoop, and as an addict, you put smoke ahead of you,” he confessed.

Free

It’s been now one year since he touched a cigarette and Macharia warned others who are addicted to work on dropping smoking.

“365 days ago I was a smoke slave, I couldn’t function without smoke, I kept it to my mind that I needed to smoke to be more creative, later on I realized it was just a myth, I prayed to God and said to myself I will quit, I prayed and told God to free me coz am His child and He did. I had smoked for 22years, between age 9 – 14 I was a soft smoker but from age 16 I became a heavy smoker,” he said.

Adding:

“I smoked 2 -3 packs a day. Estimately before quitting, I had smoked more than 166,000 cigarettes, in this, I haven’t count Shisha and Marijuana. Estimately on the lower side I had spent more than 804,000ksh on smoke. Well, am glad I did it, thanks to my wife @millychebby for pushing me hard and friends that encouraged me. Smoking cost me a lot, loss of dignity, loss of jobs, I remember some of my ‘friends’ who wanted to me to offer my creative services to them used to say “huyu usimpee pesa, bora uende na fegi atakuskiza”.  That’s how low I could stoop, and as an addict, you put smoke ahead of you. I have a lot to say but am glad people view me differently now. You too can quit from whatever enslaves you, choose a struggle and don’t look back. #GodFirst #myQuitingJourney #happy1stanniversary #smokefree”
