In Nyeri, police detain wanted former prisoner Peter Nderitu

An ex-convict, identified as Peter Ndiritu Ndirangu alias Kimaitho, aged 35, has been apprehended in Nyeri County following information provided by residents about his location. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that Kimaitho is linked to cases involving violent robbery, hawking, general robbery, and phone snatching. Upon flushing him out of his hideout, the police discovered 12 sachets of heroin, 9 rolls of bhang, a machete, and two kitchen knives in his possession.

“Kimaitho was released from prison in December 2023 but has since been implicated in various attacks reported at Weitemere, Majengo, Kiawara, and Blue Valley areas of Nyeri,” stated the DCI. “The ex-convict has been remanded at King’ong’o prison without the option of bail following his criminal record.”

In a separate incident in Nairobi, police are actively searching for suspects involved in the stabbing death of Tobias Oyo, aged 45, in Huruma. Responding to a morning call, police found Oyo’s body on the roadside, displaying visible stab wounds on the head and both sides of his chest. According to his family, Oyo left his house at 5 am for work when the attack occurred.

Police investigations revealed that a gang of four men was on a robbery spree targeting pedestrians heading to work. It is suspected that Oyo resisted their orders, leading to the fatal stabbing. The gang robbed him of his mobile phone but left Sh2,300 intact in his trousers. Security cameras at the scene showed the four men escaping toward the Mathere River direction after the incident, still armed with knives and crude weapons. The body has been moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further investigation.
