He just resigned from NMG – ex-KTN journalist defends Cliff for having wedding fundraiser

There have been some wild reactions after former NTV journalist Cliff Laban invited friends and well-wisher to a wedding fundraiser scheduled for Sunday.

Not many loved the idea and Kenyans complained online saying it was a bad idea.

“A fundraising for a wedding is the stupidest thing a man can ever do. If you can’t afford to hold a wedding, don’t do it, just get married. Holding a fundraiser for a wedding ni botheration tu. Especially when you can be married with or without a wedding. Why do you stress people and yourselves with costs and bills you can’t handle?” said one journalist.

According to Saddique Shaban who used to work at KTN, Cliff should have expected that since he’s a journalist and used to work for Nation, a media house which has specialized on rag-tag reporting.

No loyalty

Shaban said that media houses are never loyal to you and just wait for an opportunity to blast you once you exit.

He however went on to wish Cliff all the best in their fund raiser. But will Shaban contribute anything? Probably not.

“Uhuru man, indeed. Clickbait. Laban-Cliff Onserio is his own man first and other things later. I mean, he just resigned from NMG where this ragtag publication is housed. If this is meant to embarrass Laban, then it has failed flat. Best wishes to you Laban and your lovely wife-to-be. Welcome to the world of media cannibalism.” he said.

“The incident happened on Sunday at midnight and I was driving behind the car and just near the weigh bridge on Mlolongo there are usually a few bumps. And as the taxi in front of the lady’s car slowed down because of the bumps the car being driven by the woman did not reduce its speed and rammed into the taxi,” he explained in another tweet.

Influential connections

Saddique shared videos of the drunk UoN driver uttering incoherent words after the accident. She was also bragging that no one could arrest her due to her influential connections.

Kenyans expressed their disappointment with the country’s judicial system after a casual laborer was handed a jail term by Eldama Ravine court for stealing a piece of cabbage worth Kes 40 which he wanted to cook.

Robert Kihara was arrested after plucking the cabbage from a garden owned by the Mercy Mission Hospital in the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru where his brother Father Francis Mugo serves as a priest. Father Francis defended his action saying he had Kihara put behind bars as a way of rehabilitating him due to his ‘bad manners’

Eldama Ravine court sentenced Kihara to two months in prison. His plight was highlighted by the media prompting Kenyans to call for his release.

Well-wishers decided to bail him out; Saddique Shaban with a group of other well-wishers were at Eldama Ravine court on Tuesday to secure Kihara’s release.

Father Francis, who was in the court on Tuesday when well-wishers freed his brother, fled through the fence of Eldama Ravine court after realizing that a crowd had gathered to witness the incident.

“Here is our person of interest. Robert Kihara is a free man after four days in Prison. We bailed him out because we felt right thing to do. Kenyans must stay woke & ensure the process of law & justice is applied in a fair and humane manner, irrespective of social status,” Saddique Shaban wrote after Kihara was released from Eldama Ravine prison.

Well-wishers also bought Kihara new household items as he said he couldn’t return to his brother’s church compound.
