The National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNA-Kenya) has vehemently condemned a recent attack on a nurse at Port Victoria Hospital in Busia County. In a statement, the association’s president, Collins Ajwang, called the incident a “savage and unprovoked attack” and demanded swift action against the perpetrator.

Clarifying the Offender: Ajwang clarified that the assailant was not a student nurse, as initially reported. “Nurses undergo rigorous training in professionalism and respect,” he emphasized. “We have since identified the individual as a theatre technician student from Nairobi Women’s Hospital, currently on rotation at KUTRRH Theatre.”
Demanding Accountability: The NNA-Kenya urged relevant authorities, including regulatory bodies, to take immediate action and address the incident with the severity it deserves. “We are actively seeking remedial measures to support the affected nurse and prevent similar acts in the future,” Ajwang affirmed.
Legal Action and Professional Conduct: The statement further expressed appreciation towards the targeted nurse and other healthcare workers for maintaining composure in the face of the assault. “We are collaborating with legal institutions to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action against the perpetrator,” Ajwang stated.
Disturbing Details: Briefly describing the viral video, the statement mentioned the presence of a man and a woman verbally abusing two nurses. The woman was seen disrupting the work environment, throwing objects, and hurling insults. At one point, she threatened to call someone identified as “Ababu,” prompting her companion to make a frantic phone call claiming an emergency.
