Willy Paul reveals why he’s tired with the Kenyan music industry and doesn’t care anymore

Singer Willy Paul has come out to air his frustration with the Kenyan industry saying that it has reached a point where he doesn’t care anymore what people are saying.

The singer, who has complained severally about music cartels who are controlling the music, said that they have been sidelining him and don’t want to pay for his talent.

Speaking during an interview, the Bure Kabisa hitmaker revealed that the reasons why he no longer performs in Kenya is because they can’t afford him.

Expensive

“If you call me for shows and don’t meet my standards am sorry I will not come, first I am expensive because my talent and gifts are expensive second i invest a lot in my work and you should pay me a reasonable amount,” he explained.

He added:

“Again cartels in the music industry are evil people if you don’t share a deal or what you have with them you become their enemy and they will not give you shows,” he said.

“You show them your know worth you become their enemy if  you turn down the offer and tell them this is what you need you to become their enemy if you show them your worth because of your brand they take you as an enemy and they don’t call you for shows  but instead they give somebody else.”

Willy Paul and Bahati not nominate in the 2019 Groove Awards

The nominees for the 14th annual Groove Awards were unveiled at an exclusive red carpet event held at the Kenyan National Theatre on Wednesday night under the theme “Better Together”.

Familiar faces yet again dominated the list which has 23 categories.

Some for the leaders in this year’s nominations include Jabidii, who led with 11 nominations including.

Jabidii was nominated in; Artist of the Year category, Collabo of the Year, Song of the Year, Teens Choice Song of the Year (in which he received 2 nominations ), Reggae/Ragga Song of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the year, Collabo of the year and Dance style/song of the Year.

Rejected

Interestingly Bahati and Willy Paul were not nominated this time round. The two haven’t been really on the same page with the award since it banned them a few years ago then waived off their ban later on.

Last year Bahati rejected his award saying he didn’t want to be part of the event. Willy Paul appreciated for the nomination then but also wasn’t concerned so much about it.
