Un-Identified Men Who Visited Kiptum’s Home Arrested

Four days before to the unfortunate automobile accident that claimed the life of late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum, four individuals were taken into custody by police on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Keiyo South Sub County Commandant Abdullahi Dahir confirmed the arrest, stating that the four unidentified individuals had been held at Kaptagat Police Station in Elgeyo Marakwet County earlier and were then taken to Iten for additional interrogation.

“The four were taken to Elgeyo Marakwet for further investigations. They all come from Uasin Gishu County,” Abdullahi stated.

This occurs just a few days after Samson Cheruiyot, Kiptum’s father, requested an investigation and disclosed the startling circumstances of what happened in the days preceding his son’s tragic death.

Speaking on Monday, February 12, 2024, a clearly distraught Cheruiyot recalled that for four days, four odd visitors showed up at his house asking questions about the deceased athlete.

The four men, who at that point pretended to be federal agents, were asking him where his son was since they were looking into him.

The distraught father tried to find out who the individuals were and why they were questioning his son out of worry for him. They left his house, though, and refused to give their names away.

“Kuna watu walikuja siku nne kumtafuta nyumbani, walisema wanataka kumwona wakati hii maneno ilitokea nikajiuliza walikua wanafanya uchunguzi gani kwa mtoto wangu… wakati huo, hao watu walikataa kujitambulisha. Niliwaambia wanipatie makaratasi kujitambulisha kuwa nia watu wa serikali, wakakataa, mpaka mmoja alijiondoa,” he stated.
