Kenyan Artistes to the Rescue of Kenyan Music

“Kenyan music will soon be extinct if we don’t ACT now.”

Reads the distress message on a Facebook page created by Kenyan artistes to rescue the fast-dwindling popularity of Kenyan music across the continent.

“If the next generation grows up listening to nothing but foreign music there will be no room for our Kenyan music. Remember mtoto aleavyo ndivyo akuavyo. We can change this by teaming up as artists across the country and speaking in one voice…invite ua fellow artist to like this page if you share our vision. #KENYANMUSICFIRST reads another message on the Facebook page adding, “Tusikubali ku nyanyaswa kwa grao yetu kama Brazil #KENYANMUSICFIRSTCAMPAIGN

Basically, what Kenyan artistes are calling for is embracing of Kenyan music. They have started an operation dubbed, “Toa Yao Moja Weka Yetu Moja”, which requests all fans, deejays, veejays, radio and TV producers to remove any foreign music from their playlists and replace with a Kenyan jam.
