Kenya’s First Confessed HIV+ Artist Passes on under Unclear Circumstances

In May last year, upcoming Kenyan artist, Frigacy, became the first artist to make public his HIV report.

“I’m HIV positive.i no longer want to keep this secret by myself hence i want people with as mutual status to come out n accept the way things are n live positively…..being HIV is not the end of life…i want to b an inspirational artiste to many especially on this matter..give me support on this as enlarge my HIV/AIDS campaign of awareness”declared the recording artiste under Maxton.

That year, Frigacy’s music career was on the right path and a month later, he released his single, Mapenzi, that went to receive some positive reviews.

Much wasn’t heard about him for the few coming weeks, at least as far as his music was concerned, as he was busy beefing with gay Gospel artist, Joji Baro.

Yesterday (Sunday 23rd March), we received a chilling text message that George Kihara AKA Frigacy was no more. The SMS was brief and straight to the point. It read;

“It’s with deep sadness we announce the passing of of Frigacy…he was a young talented musician and enterprenuer who gained publicity a while back under Ghafla publication. Kindly announce the news to his friends through your website.”

When we called the number, it is Frigacy’s cousin, Cliff Njema, that answered and that’s when we learnt he was the originator of the text.

According to Cliff, Frigacy passed on early Saturday and details about his death are still scanty.

Asked about what might have caused his death, Cliff says he has no idea.

“Am not sure about what caused his death but you know he was a drug-addict plus he was HIV+,” says Cliff adding that they are awaiting a post-mortem result is being conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.

Before his untimely death, Frigacy had been taken ill at the Murang’a District Hospital after he started feeling “very weak”.
