Kenya’s smartest thief! Meet the 28 year old computer geek who stole 4 billion from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)

KRA is the bloodline for the Kenyan economy, you would think their computer system couldn’t be hacked into but someone managed to gain unauthorized access to their data.

28-year-old Alex Mutungi Mutuku has been accused of causing KRA a Kes 4 billion loss for hacking into their computer system.

Mr. Mutuku is accused of fraudulently causing the huge lose by interfering with the tax man’s computer system between March 2015 and March 2017.

The computer geek was arrested after a police conducted a massive security operation to nab him, Nation reports that authorities received information that banks and other institutions were losing cash through suspicious electronic transactions.

Mr. Mutungi denied charges of electronic fraud and interference with KRA’s computers when he was presented before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

Prosecution lawyers Edward Okello and Kadebe told the court that a printout of data from seized items would fill two large rooms.

The lawyers revealed that several electronic gadgets including mobile phones, computers, hard drives, digital video recorders and servers were seized during the operation and forwarded to the cyber forensic laboratory for analysis.

Mutungi remains in police custody for now, his fate will be known on Tuesday March 28th when the court will rule on whether he will be released on bond or not.
