KTN’s Ben Kitili Shares His Views On The Aborted Mashemeji Derby… Some Fans Won’t Take This Lightly Though

Everybody is still raging at the hooliganism experienced on Sunday when Gor Mahia FC faced off with AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium in what is popularly known as the Mashemeji Derby.

Trouble ensued in the first half of the game when a section of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards exchanged bitter words and then blows which were followed by stones and teargas from police officers.

And when the game resumed in the second, the stadium erupted as fans blew each other away. Police lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the crowd that was causing trouble.

The match was eventually abandoned.

Many have aired their disgust at the hooliganism experienced in such matches, with AFC Leopards fans coming under heavy scrutiny for fuelling the trouble.

Among those clearly disgusted is KTN’s Ben Kitili. Airing his views through one of the social media pages that give platform for sport enthusiasts to discuss issues, Kitili said:

“Guys, I am an ardent AFC Leopards fan..i dont agree with him on many issues but i’m afraid i agree with what Peter Kirumba said in his post about Ingwe..it is 100 per cent true unfortunately..we are playing rubbish and our board is running us to the ground..but as fans, what happened yesterday was simply unacceptable..you cant just disrupt a game!..first of all it was a stonewall penalty..if you handle the ball in the penalty area it’s a penalty..even Saleh knew it and it was a good game..but also the police need to get serious..tear gas should be the last resort at a football game..why dont they just put a buffer zone in the Russia stand between our fans and Gor fans?..there would never be trouble..having said that we as fans need to take responsibility..this is the 21st century and we are taking our game backwards..meanwhile, Gor fans’ behaviour was pure class yesterday..something we should emulate as we fix our problems as Ingwe..”
