Like Donald Trump,Mike Sonko Is A Political Teflon Don – But Also A Dangerous Political Bully Who The Public Won’t Just Stop Worshipping.

Last Friday,Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko did something very characteristically Sonko – mannerlessly disrupt a public function that he had no business attending in the first place.

Feisty and boisterous as usual,Honorable (it’s such a pain to refresh to him as such) Sonko attempted to wrest control of a funeral from the hosts,launching into an idiotic,drugged rambling speech that culminated with him crowning himself the “Acting President” and,along the way,spewing out crude,tasteless insults and cuss words at everyone around – including the mourners.

What was surprising actually,is the fact that Hon. Wavinya Ndeti,the widowed wife of the late Dolamu Henry Oduwole who was being buried that day,came out in defense of,no seriously,Mike Sonko.

Wavinya Ndeti,ladies and gentlemen,saw absolutely NOTHING wrong with some ostentatiously-clad politician disrupting her own late husband’s funeral to just ramble on and on about stuff that even kindergarten-age children could dismiss as gibberish.

Anyone would have expected Miss Ndeti to have been livid and raving mad at Mike Sonko for being such a child and prude at such a solemn,sombre event.

But she wasn’t mad at him at all.

Wow.

She was all easy with him. All cool. All chilled out. She actually thinks he did just fine. And wonders why anyone would want to switch off the microphone at a man who’s swearing,cussing,rambling and spitting unprintable expletives at a funeral.

Sonko had only one job – to read the President’s speech (assuming there was any)

But that job was left undone as the undisputed master of chaos launched into an adolescent tirade with no provocation at all.

Still,to many women,even his own wife and female relatives,there’s really nothing wrong with Senator Sonko.

Sonko,like Donald Trump after him,has long gotten away with the crudest and rawest of ills always relying on the imbecilic public to support him and his puerile tantrums – because he’s the banner on which the names Jubilee appear.

For the last one week or so,US Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has been embroiled in all manner of controversy after controversy as troves of disgruntled women keep coming out to accuse him of sexual assault in the past.

This man was secretly recorded in 2005 making all manner of cavalier talk about women and their private parts claiming that you can randomly kiss,grope,fondle and grab women by the pu**y if you’re famous.

He said women allow you to do that. And dismissed it as locker room talk in the subsequent televised debate.

Trump has also been revealed to have lusted after a ten-year old girl in 1992 telling friends that he would date her “in ten years”

The scope of Trump’s epic faults,misogyny,flagrant impertinence,intolerance,insolence,verbal violence and antagonism cannot even be thoroughly encapsulated in this singular piece.

Just like Sonko,he’s a deeply flawed public nuisance who has made it his business to disrupt the peace,bully his rivals,name-call,bulldoze his way around functions,cuss,threaten and virulently demean his opponents to a deafening din of applause and cheers from his slavish supporters.

Nothing Sonko says – or does – seems to stick to him.

Also,no amount of public outcry and media protests can make him apologize,change,swallow his words or admit he’s wrong.

But Sonko,like Trump,doesn’t act alone.

His best moments of idiocy and unspeakable intolerance are practiced in front of a cheering,smitten audience of fools and deplorables who relish every confrontation and soak in every dirty insult with glee.

Half of Trump’s most toxic supporters were famously referred to as a gang that belongs to a “basket of deplorables” by Hillary Clinton,the Democratic Nominee for President.

And sure,they are.

In a video shared by Buzz feed,the media organization seeks to learn if women will still vote for Trump in November in the wake of his many,despicable sexual crimes and flagrant misogyny.

Surprisingly,most of the American women quizzed still maintain their support for Trump preferring to focus more on the fact that Trump will “Make American Great Again” – his rallying call- and less on the fact that Trump is a deeply-flawed, disgusting garbage of a hate-filled,cold scoundrel.

Back home,most of Sonko’s most flagrant supporters tend to ignore his flaws and many public instances of mannerlessness and war-like nature in favor of his leadership style and maverick,populist ideology.

That’s how demagogues get into power.

By playing to the emotions of the public,blinding the voters with an empty,populist rhetoric and still,remaining the savage,caustic scumbags they are.

That’s how Rodrigo Duterte, the current President of the Philippines got into power.

Mr. Duterte has publicly insulted the Pope,called Obama a pus*y,called for the haphazard execution of drug addicts right across the streets of Manila and pretty much shut out the Western World from his dubious,irrational activities.

Trump may still be elected President. As Mike Sonko might still be elected Nairobi Governor.

In this age,unlike in the golden ages when sterling leaders like Tom Mboya,Winston Churchill,Franklin D Roosevelt and Nelson Mandela would be elected to power,if you’re a loud,obnoxious propagandist,who often name-calls your enemies,demeans your foes,grabs the microphone from your opponent,blurts out insults to the crowd,engages in grandiose flamboyancy and generally disturbs the peace,you have a better chance with the electorate.

It’s the age of rogues in power.

But what a terrible,terrible time to be alive.
