Nairobi Half Life Biggest Winner at the Kalasha Awards

The biggest winner at last Saturday’s Kalasha Awards at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, as we all expected, was Nairobi Half Life.

The film won a total of five awards including Best Original Screenplay for Serah Mwihaki, Charles Matathia and Samuel Munene supervised by Billy Kahora and Tom Tykwer. The film’s editor, Mkaiwawi Mwakaba, however, lost to Simiyu Samurai.

NHL bounced back with a Cinematography award for Director of Photography, Christian Almesberger and camera operator Mohamed Zain. Tosh Gitonga won Best Director and lead actor, Joseph K. Wairimu repeated his Durban International Film Festival achievement by winning Best Actor.

Nairobi Half Life also won the night’s biggest award by taking Best Feature Film. Despite all the glory NHL also provided the biggest surprise when Olwenya Maina lost Best Supporting Actor to Torn Veil’s David Ng’ang’a Ndugi. Check out the full winners’ list here.
