Sola Sobowale Speaks on her Role in ‘King of Boys’, Describes Kemi Adetiba as a Slave Driver

From the 90s to the new millennium and still waxing stronger at the scenes, Nollywood actress, Sola Sobowale is one of the very few faces that has remained on the scenes for so long.

In a recent interview with Pulse.ng, the actress talked about what it was like being on set with Kemi Adetiba. Noting how much the director believed in her to have given her the role, she said she had to deliver.

Kemi is like a slave driver, she said. She however, revealed that she worked so hard on set that she almost passed out.

Sola Sobowale says God ordained her to be an actor.

According to the actress who is now fondly called ‘King of Boys’, it was God who ordained her into acting. Kemi, she said, is the one that made it happen.

Excerpts from the interview below;

Kemi is a killer, I almost died. Kemi is a slave driver but thank God. She would say to me: ‘Do you want to look bad on that screen at the end of the day? We thank God for the result.

However, what baffles me is when she commends a scene and says ‘that was nice, that was beautiful’, but says we should have another take and before you know it, we would have had 10 or 15 takes.

“I remember a particular scene we were shooting and I was already in action and I heard a distant voice saying ‘Get Aunty S a chair; get her a bottle of water’.

I asked what was going on and Kemi said ‘Aunty S, you are fainting’. I sat down and didn’t know I was shaking vigorously. That is the kind of director Kemi is — the type who sees the work and sees the person. Other locations, maybe I would have been dead by now.

“I got the King of Boys script after a lunch with Kemi Adetiba. After The Wedding Party, I got a call from Kemi Adetiba — she calls me Aunty S. She said ‘Where are you?’ and I told her I was home. She asked me to join her for lunch somewhere in Victoria Island and I joined her because I love food and I love her personality.”

Speaking on her acting career, she said:

“This is what God has ordained me to do”.

“I told her I have been around for a while from my days in NTA, Village Headmaster, Mirror in the Sun, Suara and several other productions but she wasn’t moved, she said the role was for me and I looked at her and said, Kemi after all these years?

You have given me a chance to do this because this is all I do, this is what I know how to do best, this is what God has ordained me to do and you Kemi are the one giving me this, you are giving me opportunity to shine, for the whole wide world to know this is what Sola knows how to do best. And I promised her that a she has believed in me, I won’t let her down and God will do wonders and God did it. It’s teamwork but I have to thank Kemi Adetiba for giving me the chance and opportunity” . She added.

Marriage is not my crowning glory – Kemi Adetiba

Kemi Adetiba won’t be less of a woman

Popular female film maker, Kemi Adetiba, shared her thoughts on marriage and kids via Instagram. Read what she thinks.

“I will be 38 in just over a month and a half, and while I would LOVE to be married (to my God-chosen companion, and best friend) and have child(ren), I am very comfortable with the knowledge that my life is just as valid, and beautiful, and happy, and successful, if for some reason that never comes to pass.

‘Marriage and kids is not my “crowning glory”… It’s another BEAUTIFUL step in life I would love to take. I’d also love to make (and keep) a billion dollars in my lifetime, but I won’t be any less of a woman or Kemi Adetiba if that didn’t come to pass either.

‘No… I’m not comparing the two. I’m just highlighting it doesn’t diminish a (Wo)man’s -Kemi Adetiba’s – worth if it never happens.
Hello… Good morning ?? Have a great Tuesday.”
