Open a campaign account by 5pm today, If you want to see your name on the ballot box come 8th august – IEBC

If you want to vie for a political office and wish to see your name on the ballot box come 8th august 2016, then you MUST open your campaign account by 5pm today.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has asked political parties and candidates who will contest in next year’s elections to open campaign financing accounts by today.
The electoral body cited the Election Campaign Act which requires that political parties and candidates have campaign accounts at least eight months before the day of the general election, IEBC CEO, Ezra Chiloba said in a statement sent to newsroom.
 
The general election is supposed be held on 8th august 2016 according to the constitution.

In addition to opening accounts, political parties and candidates are required to establish campaign financing expenditure committees and appoint authorised persons who will manage the campaign funds.
 
The electoral guidelines state.
“
For accountability purposes any person or organisation seeking to contribute to a candidate or political party is required to channel such contributions through the independent candidate/political party expenditure accounts.
The IEBC announced that a Political Party Campaign Financing/Expenditure committee should consist of nine members.
 
Three of them are to be nominated by the governing body of the political party and one of the committee members must be the Secretary-General.
