PHOTOS: Ugly Scenes From The Mashemeji Derby That Was Abandoned

Two most established football clubs in the country descended on Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon to face off in what many know as the Mashemeji Derby.

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are the fiercest football rivals in the country, with their fans known to cause a farce every time these two teams meet.

And Sunday was no different from previous encounters as fans and hooligans from both sides clashed as the game went on.

It all started when AFC fans felt mistreated by an assistant referee who failed to award them a corner. They hurled stones and the situation escalated when the two factions started clashing.

Teargas canisters and stones competed for airspace as Nyayo National Stadium turned chaotic. The match was later abandoned due to crowd trouble as police made a number of arrests.
