“Prison is mental torture zone” Journalist Moses Dola who’s facing murder charges for the death of NTV journalist recounts life in Kenyan prison

Moses Dola is facing murder charges over the death of his wife Wambui Kabiru. His wife, who worked for NTV, was found dead by neighbors in their two-bedroom house in Umoja estate on May 1st 2011.

Her body was found carefully tucked in a bed in a locked bedroom in the house with foam oozing from her mouth and blood from her nose and right ear.

Dola went into hiding after the killing but was arrested two weeks later. He remained in custody until September 2011 when he was released on a Ksh 500,000 cash bail.

Even though he spent only four months locked in prison, Dola has so much to say about life in Kenyan penitentiary.

In an interview with The Star, Dola revealed that the four months he spent in prison gave him ample time to create his own entertainment company, D-entertainment, which helps ex-convicts gain employment.

He however described prison as a mental torture zone;

“So once you are in prison, you found yourself confined, you don’t have extra room to move around. So you don’t have communication to the outside world and that’s the most important thing… you are in like a torture zone, a mental torture zone… maybe because of some of the ills  or some crimes that you did. That’s why when I go to sit down and recollected I said ok you can have D-Entertainment and you can do something positive with it to steer clear out of a life of crime, inspire a few people and make them also get a life for themselves. So prison wasn’t the best especially in the first few days but I gave it acceptance.” Dola told the Star.
