Nandi Madida speaks family and getting a boob job

Nandi Madida is by far one of the most accomplished media personality. She recently spoke about her life and career to Gareth Cliff on CliffCentral.

Family

Nandi spoke about her two year old son with husband Zakes Bantwini, and the land she bought him for his birthday.

“I’ve always wanted to buy my child a piece of land, but why I did that – when he was one – was because there was a great piece of land that has water,” the 30-year-old mother said.

It was to teach him hard work and discipline.

“It was important for him to understand that property’s important – this is the land of his ancestors too – but also to understand how important it is to have such an asset. There’s something about rural life; in farming you have to wake up at 3am [to] ensure that everything is functioning. It’s hard work,” she said.

“So I wasn’t being glamorous, he’s going to learn discipline. And of course he can employ other people, but it’s a lot. He’s going to understand what it means to own something, to work for it and look after it, and a lot of people don’t have that concept,” she explained.

Parenting

Nandi’s hubby Zakes helps with parenting and everything else, except changing the nappy when he has pooped.

“He did it once and he said never again. He’s completely traumatised,” she laughed.

What makes their marriage work is the act that “We’re so imperfect and fine with it.”

Nandi Madida to showcase Color at Paris Fashion Week

Nandi Madida has been making major strides in the fashion industry. In February, she showcased her clothing label Color at the New York fashion week.

She recalled where her love for fashion came from.

“At my 30th birthday party Minnie Dlamini reminded me that when I was 14 [or] 15 I was selling t-shirts. And she also reminded that I said I’d showcase at New York Fashion Week.”

Nandi is now planning yet another big showcase. This time to Paris.

“I can actually give you an exclusive. I will be collaborating with a gentleman called Omar – his label is called Sukeina. He’s actually been dressing Naomi Campbell of late, but he’s dressed a lot of people, including Thandi Newton for her last photoshoot. He lives in New York and we’re going to be collaborating on our collection for New York Fashion Week.”

“I was very fortunate. I got the chance to see the Chanel showroom at the Rue Cambon. That inspired me so much because what a lot of people don’t know, from a commercial perspective of course New York is the hub for fashion, but from almost like a scholar perspective, that’s what Paris is about. It’s almost like when you get a nod from them in Paris then you really understand fashion and what it’s about. Because they’re all about the craftsmanship and the process of creating a garment. I’m excited to showcase there.”

Nandi Madida reveals the present she bought her son on his birthday

In February, Nandi Madida made it clear that her main focus for working hard was to build her son an empire.

Present

She recently shared that she bought land for her son Shaka, and has begun building a farm on the land.

For her, it is important for her offsprings to understand the importance of generational wealth.

Nandi’s post read: “Last year I bought my son some land as his first bday gift and have begun building a farm for him, which he will then hand down to his kids and so on. As you know I rarely show material things on my page, but this was a very proud moment for me as his mother because this is a legacy that will last for many generations to come. It’s the same as Colour (my fashion line) and the other businesses I’m apart of which you’ll soon earn about, I want my children to understand generational wealth. Having grown up in Durban North and having parents who come from rural KZN Maphumulo, I learnt from both backgrounds that generational wealth is more important than buying things that lose value over time (cars, clothes etc). I am who I am because of my parents, grandparents and my ancestors. I owe it to my kids to also play my part. Love you Shaka Madida.”
