Safaricom Launches Kenya Live Initiative

On Tuesday, Safaricom launched a Kenyan music initiative dubbed “Kenya Live.” The purpose of this initiative is to support the music industry, and help aspiring artists to realise their artistic dreams by showing them that you can earn a good living out of making music.

The deal involved a diverse group of top Kenyan musicians, who will all be managed by the Homeboyz. The musicians involved are:

1. Redsan
2. Nameless
3. Wahu
4. Jua Cali
5. Ally B
6. Osogo Winyo
7. Ken wa Maria
8. Wyre
9. Eko Dydda
10. Allan Aaron
11. M.O.G
12. Mike Rua
13. Phonotex Success Band
14. S.T.L
15. DJ John

They will go around the country doing massive concerts and educational meetings with aspiring artistes. Safaricom will also provide for the artists to produce new songs and take studio pictures. The media generated will then be promoted via “Kenya Live,” a new section in the Safaricom Live portal. The performance agreement lasts for one year, while the media promotion agreement lasts for three years.

It should be noted that this is NOT an endorsement deal, meaning that the content produced need not promote Safaricom. It should also be noted that several other top artists who were approached turned down the deal.
