“Stop Blaming Us For Playing Nigerian & South African Music”: DJ

For some time now there has been a raging debate pitting Kenyan musicians on one side and deejays on the other over the airtime given to foreign music; more specifically Naija and Kwaito.

In fact a section of artistes have formed a movement, “Kenyan MUSIC FIRST Campaign” that champions for more airplay for Kenyan music as opposed to foreign music.

However, one deejay has come out to defend fellow deejays on why they give Naija and South African music first priority. According to DJ Daggie Fx, artistes should stop whining about their music not being played and focus on making quality music.

Here are his sentiments;

Daggie fx post

“Time to end this debate once and for all.

DJs should NEVER be blamed for playing Nigerian and South African Music, Why are Kenyan artists complaining. Have they ever complained about DJs and the media at large playing Dancehall or music from other parts of the World? I think its jealousy.

Music goes with demand. If you are good, then the audience will demand your stuff. The Sauti Sols, the Elanis etc. music is played on equal levels with Kwaito and Nigeria. KENYAN MUSICIANS KINDLY COME UP WITH CREATIVE AND ORIGINAL CONTENT. It’s a shame that some go to an extent of trying Kwaito Beats. Can’t we have a Kenyan beat?

Big up to GRANDPA records – that’s something original.”
