Terror as Al-Shaabab attack police post in Arabia-Mandera….destroy all communication channels

Shortly after the deadly attack on a KDF camp in Kulbiyow, Al-shaabab has launched another vicious attack on a police post in Arabia-Mandera this morning, Thursday 2nd February.

According to reports which are not quite very clear, they stormed the Administration police post around 3AM, burnt the police vehicle and destroyed all communications channels.

The number of casualties at the police post is yet to be confirmed North Eastern regional commander Mohamud Saleh confirmed the attack and said a response team to check on the casualties has been sent.

Arabia-Mandera Attacked by Al-Shaabab

“There is no communication with officers on the ground but there was an attack there. Teams are heading there,” he said.

KDF have since been deployed to the area to go and maintain sanity and the country is currently on a standstill awaiting communication from that end.

The Arabia attack comes in the wake of Kulbiyow massacre which saw 9 KDF soldiers lose their lives though Al-Shabaab reports indicated that more than 60 lives were lost during the attack.

Another El-Adde? Al Shabaab claims it has taken over another KDF base in Somalia after a successful ambush today morning

Al Shabaab’s military spokesman has revealed that the terror group has successfully seized a Kenyan military base at Kulbiyow, Somalia early today morning.

“Two mujahideen rammed suicide car bombs into the base in Kulbiyow town before storming it. After hand-to-hand fighting, we have taken over the base,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al Shabaab’s military operation spokesman, was quoted by Reuters.

The number of casualties still remains unknown; the Kenyan government is yet to confirm the claim by Al Shabaab.

Today’s attack at Kulbiyow comes as a shock to Kenyans as only a year ago on 15th of January, Al Shabaab ambushed a Kenyan base at El Adde and killed over 60 soldiers.

Al Jazeera reporter has mocked the Kenyan government posing with Al Shabaab commanders said to be killed in airstrikes a few years ago.

Hamza Mohamed has claimed that he met Al Shabaab commanders whom the Kenyan government had announced that they had killed in airstrikes.

Hamza is a British national who works for Al Jazeera as a producer and reporter covering Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Al Jazeera reporter recently interviewed Al Shabaab’s spokesman, Sheikh Ali Mohamed Rage, in Somalia.

Hamze posted a photo of him and other Al Shabaab commanders on twitter on January 12th claiming that the commanders were still at large despite the Kenyan government claiming that they had killed them.

“Kenya said it killed these Al Shabaab leaders in airstrikes few years ago. I met them on my last trip to Somalia, ” Hamza Mohamed tweeted.
