The Curse Of The Lightskinned,Successful Beauty Queens… Why Danson Mungatana Couldn’t Manage His Two Gorgeous Girlfriends,Mwanaisha Chidzuga And Cecilia Mwangi.

He was once one of the most-if not the most-colorful Ministers under the graft-ravaged Kibaki regime. Towering above his colleagues like a colossus, proudly presiding over a Ministry that not only have him power but much media visibility,Hon. Danson Mungatana quickly became NARC’s most vocal adherent… A dashing young man with the whole world for him to conquer,a dazzling law career, ability to deliver flowery, stirring speeches and a man with the pulse of the President on his hands.

Cheeky and with a penchant to stir controversy,Hon. Mungatana was a typical man,a typical Nairobi lawyer-cum-Politician who,as it has been proven in the past, has more than a healthy fascination with gorgeous media women,fresh-faced and with striking smiles.

Already married and with kids,Mungatana’s ballooning fortunes at the helm of various Government ministries increased his likability, also affording him a much glossier life surrounded by power, money and political expediency.

And that’s around the time he met Cecilia Mwangi, then a fresh-faced demure beauty queen who’d just trotted the World flaunting her Miss Kenya title and who also was getting all of these invites to places and events in her capacity as the Nation’s Face of Beauty.

And with nothing to stop him,Mungatana used the same political charm he was so endowed with to charm his way into Cecilia’s heart, showing a genuine interest in her work, using his powerful connections to open more doors for her and still, remaining very besotted with her. Almost star-struck.

A natural charmer and sure Coastal romantic,it wasn’t very hard for Hon. Mungatana to ease his way into this girl’s world, all this time, playing in the shadows, never wanting to publicize his burgeoning relationship with this popular Jigger Ambassador and also instructing her to keep it all under wraps.

With enough money and means,Mungatana enjoyed a blissful affair with Miss Mwangi-dates,exotic trips,5-star hotels, foreign rendezvous… Everything a gorgeous young woman, herself a noted success in her own right, would ever wish for.

For half a decade or more,Hon. Mungatana and Cecilia enjoyed a fabulous, private romance that was fervently kept out of the eye of the public. But as time went by,the cat would soon leave the bag,and these twosome’s hanky panky were the talk of town.

Cecilia, tired of harboring a secret that was now going rogue, even opened up about her Mungatana situation. Publicly agreeing to be his second wife. And to be enmeshed in a polygamous marriage. That shock announcement shocked and stirred the nation. But that was that.

As his fortunes continued to grow, and his bank account as well,so did Mungatana’s appetite for yet another woman – a younger one also, who, just like Cecilia, was secretive, lightskinned, successful, fabulous and also a media darling.

Clearly,Mheshimiwa had a type. And that’s how he charmed his way,yet again, into the heart of a TV presenter- Mwanaisha Chidzuga,a fellow Coastal breed.

His affair with Mwanaisha, just that with that of Cecilia, was also shrouded in mystery. It only got to the public after they both had gotten too deep (no pun intended) in the action. And a daughter was produced.

At around the time Mwanaisha gave birth, her hubby, also the hubby of Cecilia Mwangi at the same time, had attempted to view for the Gubernatorial elections in Tana River and lost ignominiously.

That was also the time his political fortunes started dwindling, starting with the dismal performance of his former party’s presidential candidate Martha Karua.

At around 2012/2013,Hon. Mungatana, still yoked to his original wife plus these two other media darlings, started experiencing a beating. He wasn’t the political rock star he was some few years ago anymore. His popularity also had started waning fast. His fortunes started crumbling and the charm had worn off.

Later,he would be dragged to court, labeled bankrupt and publicly called out by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula for refusing to pay back a loan he had taken from him.

This was a new Mungatana,a less glamorous, less winning, less successful and less visible man. A shell of his former, glorious self a Mungatana who was even getting blacklisted by the Kidero administration for outstanding land arrears he had in town.

His personal woes,it seemed, started manifesting even in his marriage… And the two girls he had sired children with had started feeling him less and less, started squabbling amongst themselves and started reevaluating their options and looking at him afresh.

The charm he had won them over with was now wearing out. He had way too many legal and financial woes to tackle. He started becoming an absentee dad and hubby – Always away to take care of business,to try and resuscitate his dying political career and to jostle himself back into the limelight again.

One thing that today’s urban second wives have in common with their compatriots of old is wife preference, the youngest of course getting the most attention – be it emotionally, conjugally or financially.

Combine this special treatment with the fact that their husband isn’t always home and it’s easy to see why some of today’s young women are open to the notion of a polygamous relationship. They get to retain their freedom and still have love, devotion and financial stability from their husbands.

And that’s probably what lured Cecilia, then young and ebullient,to Mungatana’s nest.

But after Mwanaisha came along,Cecilia was no longer the youngest and the newest in the marriage. And that’s when the cracks started manifesting.

Being a second wife is, in most cases, not always received with open arms. For the first wife, there is always that concern that she is not the love of her husband’s life. For the second wife, she will always be number two, regardless of how kind, loving, appreciative and present the husband is. No wonder Hon. Mungatana always insisted on covering up the realities… To avoid a public backlash.

But the women Mungatana snared were not your everyday,girl-next-door losers. With crappy looks and no jobs.

These are media darlings-accomplished women in their own fields, women who could pull their own weight, women who made a tidy salary, women who were young and very beautiful, women who had a life and were still driving millions of men crazy across Kenya.

Not content with being number two, after the shock inclusion of Mwanaisha, who was now getting more media attention and who now was all the rage in town,Cecilia had no choice but to opt out of the arrangement.

Taking a cue from her former partner of passion Cecilia,Mwanaisha also started getting frustrated with the direction things were going.

The man she’d been left with was not just becoming an everyday, laughable loser but also a man who didn’t seem to know how to keep a job having recently lost his KPA chairmanship.

Gloom seemed to dog this once-glorious political superstar. Cecilia had walked away, unscathed,to live her beautiful life gorgeously away from his abject downfalls.

Mwanaisha couldn’t stay in such a mess of a marriage. Not when she was still beautiful, still employed, still relevant, still eligible and still young.

Couple that with Mungatana’s inability to stick up the union and be there for all of his lovers. This was doom waiting to happen.

As soon as Mungatana lost his mojo, soon as Mungatana fell to the ground, unable to get up and live up to the man of the past few years, that’s the day the media girls he had wooded and impregnated started vacating his doomed house.

And,in public, even denying each other. And denying they ever were co-wives to each other.

Mistake number one; Marrying two extra wives who are beautiful, successful, popular and strong-willed.

Mistake number two- Avoiding to drag them to your financial and social woes.

Mistake number three – Assuming a third wife would be good news to a second urban wife who thought she was the last you’d ever love again.

Mistake number four-starting a family with these enlightened, career women.

Mistake number five – watching your whole life crumble and fall apart, and expecting to still keep the beautiful goddesses you had wooed by the mere virtue of your success.

Hon. Mungatana was never meant to win this one. He has lost. And lost hard.

Life,sure,is a bitch.

EDIT: Mwanaisha,a few hours ago,has come out to claim that she is still happily married to Mr. Mungatana. The circus of the absurd continues….
