The Kings & Queens of Nairobi Basketball Crowned

The Nairobi conference finals begun at a rather slow pace compared to the Western conference finals.

The last game of the day; the men’s game between USIU and the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), was aired live in HD on ZUKU sports Channel 300. University of Nairobi was the last team to qualify for the finals when they beat Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) 51-22 in a one-sided mid-week game.

The teams playing in the conference finals will be battling it out for the title of Nairobi conference champions and a chance to walk away with a Kshs. 20,000 that will be awarded to their institutions.

The teams playing in the conference finals had already qualified for the National finals which are going to be held on the 11th and 12th of October at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani where they will battle it out with teams from the other conferences in the National finals.

The first game of the night saw United States International University (USIU) ladies take on UON, in a one sided game that saw USIU easily win the night 66-37. Hilda Indasi finished the game 22 points, 7 rebounds and Linda Mfuchi finished with 15 rebounds 13 points respectively. Janet Akoth finished the game with 16 points and 6 rebounds for UoN.

The second game of the night saw a charged TUK go up against USIU in a game that was believed would be  a tough one and Just like the Western conference finals, this game too was charged with the first half ending with the scores close at 31-30 in favor of USIU.

USIU though came back stronger in the second quarter and by third quarter; USIU was leading 56-34.  USIU were eventual 73-45 winners of the game. Alvin Nyangweso finished the game on 17 points and Joel Ntambwe sunk 15 points for USIU. Hope Roberts had 13 points for TUK.

Competitions now head to Kasarani for the Nationals on the 11th and 12th of October. The winners of the National  finals will walk away with Kshs. 150,000 in prize money; the first runners up win Kshs 75,000 and the second runner up will get Kshs 40,000. The semi finals and the finals of the Nationals will be live in HD on Zuku sports channel 300.
