Top African Comedian Coming to Kenya

Apparently, Basketmouth dropped out of the Africa’s King of Comedy event after the initial postponement following the Westgate Incident.

One of Africa’s most acclaimed comedians will be performing on Eric Omondi’s African Kings of Comedy show on October 26th at the KICC.

Basketmouth was born Bright Okpocha in Ajegunle Lagos on September 14th, 1978, but he is a native of Abia State.

Basketmouth is also a musician and instrumentalist. At 13, he discovered he had drumming skills and pursued it as a hobby in church and in a band. He got into rapping three years later, performing with seven other members in the group, Da Psychopaths, before they split.

After a terrible start, he finally grew into his own in 2001 when he got his big break after meeting Ali Baba. He has, to date, performed alongside the likes of Joe, Boyz 2 Men, Sean Paul, Beyonce, Wyclef Jean, Dru Hill, Akon, Snoop Dogg, Ciara and Chris Brown among others.

Basketmouth has a B.Sc in Sociology and Anthropology from University of Benin. He is married to Elsie Uzoma, who he is raising two children with.

He will perform at the African Kings of Comedy as the most accomplished act alongside other African comedy heavyweights like fellow Nigerian Mandy, Uganda’s Patric Salvador, Ann Kaansime and Kotilda, Zimbabwe’s Carl Ncube and Eric Omondi.

Africa Kings of Comedy show will take place on 26th October between 6.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m. Regular tickets to the show will retail at Kshs. 1,000 and Kshs. 2,000 for VIP tickets.
