Who Ever thought Lupita Could Also Do This?

 

Oscar-winning Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o is a great actor, dresses up for the red carpet, and even does an impromptu dance with Pharrell at the Oscars! That, so far, we’ve established that the silver screen queen star can do effortlessly and flawlessly.

But there’s another area that Lupita stays winning that most people don’t know!

Lupita is also an expert hairstylist. The Vogue cover star talks about her attempted “side hustle” as a hair braider, a skill she learned in college after being “morbidly disappointed” by a hairstylist in New York. The passionate way she talks about hair and braiding is really beautiful.

The 31-year-old stars in a new Vogue.com video in which she showcases her knack for styling hair, creating twists and braids for six of her best friends while talking about what the pastime means to her.

“For me, braiding hair is an intimate thing,” she explains. “It’s getting up close and personal, and I like to do it for people that I know and love and trust.”

 

The star talks about how she first learned to braid during her college years, after she was disappointed by the quality of salons in the U.S. So when she came home to Kenya for the summer, she visited her aunt’s hair salon, where she learned how to cornrow, box-braid and twist.
