Champions Fiji off to flying start in Dubai

World and Olympic champions Fiji recorded a perfect three wins to get the defence of their Dubai Sevens title off to a flying start on Friday.
Fiji saw off Canada 26-19, Wales by 24-12 and Argentina 22-19 to set up a Saturday quarter-final against France.
The Pacific islanders, who won their country’s first Olympic medal at Rio in August, were not the only unbeaten team on Friday with South Africa, England and Australia all easing into the last eight with 100 percent records.
“We’re happy with how we performed but we knew it was going to be tough,” said Fiji captain Osea Kolinisau. “We learned a lot from the first three games.”
South Africa, the World Series runners-up for four years in a row, enjoyed wins against Scotland, United States and Uganda.
Player of the Year Seabelo Senatla grabbed six tries to help his team into a last-eight clash against New Zealand.
England, runners-up last year in Dubai, downed the All Blacks 26-12 after also seeing off Samoa and Russia.
England will face Scotland for a place in the semi-finals.
Australia were also in dominant form seeing off Japan 19-14, France 28-0 and Kenya 17-12 to line up a clash on Saturday against Wales.
