Stella Chesang wins Gold in the Women’s 10,000m

These Common Wealth games are ours for takes. Greater news has followed on the gold medals being brought home to Uganda. Stella Chesang has just emerged successful and secured us a gold medal in the 10,000m women race.The Bronze medal for the race was taken by fellow Ugandan, Mercyline Chelangat. At the games, Chesang recorded a 31:45.30 while Chelangat, 31:48.41, to emerge winners.

The two won strong competitors such as Stacy Ndiwa, Beatrice Mutai and Sandrafelis Chebet Tuei  from neighboring Kenya, and Celia Sullhoern from Australia. At just 21 years of age, Chesng has managed to bring victory and pride to her country.

From our various sources, we confirm that all previous medals had been taken by Kenya, but not 2018. Esther Wanjiru won in 1998, Selina Kosgei in 2002, Lucy Kabuu in 2006, Grace Momanyi in 2010 and Joyce Chepkirui in 2014. For 2018, Uganda has started a journey that will not end.

This is the second gold medal for Uganda so far. Joshua Cheptegei brought the first on Sunday after he emerged successful in tha 5000m Man’s Race. Congratulations to you two, and thank you for lifting the flag high.
