Police teargas Westlands MP, Tim Wanyonyi

Police teargassed Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi and his supporters on Wednesday morning as they led Azimio rallies in Nairobi.

The lawmaker and his supporters were dispersed by police in Kangemi, Nairobi, as they began demonstrations against the high cost of living.

“We will not destroy anyone’s property; we will not be violent,” Wanyonyi said as he led the protests. “We only want to demonstrate to show the government that Kenyans are tired.”

The protests come amid police patrols in Nairobi streets to scare away protesters after Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome banned the demonstrations, calling them illegal.

Wanyonyi and his supporters were undeterred by the police presence, however. They continued to march through the streets of Kangemi, chanting slogans and calling for the government to address the rising cost of living.

The protests eventually fizzled out after police fired tear gas and water cannons at the protesters. However, the message was clear: Kenyans are angry about the high cost of living and they are not afraid to take to the streets to demand change.

The protests are a sign of growing discontent with the government’s handling of the economy. The cost of living has been rising steadily in recent months, and many Kenyans are struggling to make ends meet. The protests are a way for people to express their frustration and demand that the government take action.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the protests. However, the protests are a clear sign that the people are not happy with the status quo.
