Maverick Aoko quits blogging for Kenya Kwanza, quits political punditry

Maverick Aoko, a former journalist and now a Kenya Kwanza allied blogger, has quit politics and is leaving Nairobi for a while to focus on her mental health and studies.

In a lengthy statement she issued on September 18, 2023, Ms Aoko said she was tired of the lies and selfishness of politicians, and that she had been struggling with her mental health. She also revealed that she had been sexually misused by a handful of married politicians in the opposition Orange Democratic Movement party, where she served as a communications officer- social media.

Ms Aoko said she was now planning to undertake studies in either climate change or animal husbandry, and that she wanted to focus on being “the next Grace Ogot or Chimamanda of Kenya.”

She also said that she would return to the political scene once the Kenya Kwanza government was out of State House, and that until then, she would not vote for anyone except Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

In her statement, Ms Aoko also criticized President William Ruto and his allies, saying that they had promised to educate her and give her a government job, but had then dumped her and stopped communicating with her.

She also said that she had been hurt by the fact that Kenya Kwanza allies had viewed her as a liability and had no longer been keeping their promises to her.

Ms Aoko said that she had attempted suicide due to loneliness and depression, and that on the first attempt, her house manager had found her and saved her life. She claimed to have asked for help online but all she received was insults.

However, she would later reveal that she was taking a break from social media to heal and reflect, and come back a better person after her controversial and vulgar posts became what she was known for. She also revealed that a senior Kenyan politician saw her cry for help and offered to help her get back on her feet.

We wish Ms Aoko all the best in her recovery and her future studies.

Kenya Kwanza blogger kicked out of WhatsApp group for demanding fuel price reduction

Benji Ndolo, a rights activist and communications expert, reported being expelled from President William Ruto’s Media Voices Communication group.

“I have been removed from the President’s Media Voices communication group. No problem… God bless our country and protect truthtellers. Good morning!”

In additional discoveries, Mr. Ndolo disclosed that Ms. Joy Mdivo, the new Chairperson of the Kenya Power Board and the daughter of Bishop J.B. Masinde, is the admin of the Media Voices organization.

After publicly demanding that the government cut the price of petrol by 50% and that President Ruto hear the same message, he was excommunicated from the group a few hours later.

“Fuel prices need to go down by 50% one way or the other. Someone tell William Ruto. #FuelPrices,” said Mr Ndolo on September 17, 2023.

Mr. Ndolo defended himself by asserting that he had only provided ideas rather than incited anyone.

“I’ve not incited anyone. I’ve offered ideas. Can’t force anyone to listen, and can’t work for a dictator anyway. It’s disgusting,”

Additionally, he implied that Kenya is “burning” right now and that the country’s high cost of living is a ticking time bomb. He also concurred with the notion that Kenya Kwanza despises the truth.

In Kenya, the price of fuel has been a contentious issue lately. This comes when the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) on September 15, 2023, announced new fuel prices.

Super gasoline, kerosene, and diesel retailed at historical highs of Sh 211.64, Sh 200.9, and Sh 202.61, respectively, after price increases of Sh 16.96, Sh 21.32, and Sh 33.13, respectively.

The political class and regular Kenyans were outraged by these new rates and accused the government of doing nothing to reduce the country’s exorbitant cost of living.

Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja trade barbs over bipartisan talks

The Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team has called on Azimio La Umoja to rejoin the talks and resolve the issues affecting the country. However, Azimio has accused Kenya Kwanza of sabotaging the talks.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Kenya Kwanza co-chair George Murugara said that the issues affecting the country cannot be solved through street protests, but must be discussed at a roundtable. He thanked Azimio for calling off the demonstrations and urged them to continue preaching for peace.

Azimio, on the other hand, has accused Kenya Kwanza of absconding from the talks. Raila Odinga said that he had called off the demonstrations despite protests from his supporters, but that Kenya Kwanza had not been available for talks.

On Monday, Azimio called off the protests that were scheduled to take place on Wednesday. Instead, they asked Kenyans to hold vigils for those who have been killed during the past protests.

The two sides are now trading barbs over who is to blame for the failure of the bipartisan talks. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to come together to resolve the issues affecting the country.
