A missing KMU student was discovered dead in Meru

The decomposed remains of a 23-year-old university student, who had been reported missing, were discovered in a house in Mathare shopping centre, Imenti North, Meru County.

The deceased was identified as Samuel Gathongo, a student at Kenya Methodist University, who had been missing since February 29. His friends reported his disappearance, and his body was found in his house on March 4, according to the police.

The landlady of the residence where the deceased lived noticed flies coming from the house while removing clothes from a clothesline. The house had been locked for some time. Curious, she peeped through the window and discovered the body hanging with a rope tied around the neck from one of the roof rafters.

The police were alerted, visited the scene, and processed it. The officers later revealed that the body showed no signs of physical injuries. The body was transferred to Meru General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Although no suicide note was discovered, the police are investigating the circumstances leading to the death.

In a separate incident, an 80-year-old man, Joseph Karuku, was killed in a fire in Nguriunditu village, Kikuyu, Kiambu County. The man, living with a disability, was found in the house after the fire was contained on Sunday. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigation.

In Ndiguini Village in the same area, police are investigating the murder of a 38-year-old man, Evans Macharia, whose body was found lying on the road near his home. The body was also transferred to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation.
