Ruth Matete´s late husband´s burial takes an interesting turn

Months after investigations into Ruth Matete´s late husband, Pastor Belovedjohn Apewajoye´s death began, the Kenyan singer is yet to get access to the deceased´s body for burial processions.

All these being pegged to one thing – ongoing investigations by Nigerian authorities to ensure they leave no stone unturned in getting to the root cause of the Nigerian pastor´s death.

It now marks 2 months since the deceased´s body was and still is being held at the Kenyatta National hospital following a request by the Nigerian High Commission to detain it until the Nigerian government gives a go-ahead.

2 months for an expectant Ruth Matete translates into ballooning mortuary fees for her and her family – something she has declared she can no longer cater for.

In a letter addressed to the embassy by the singer through her lawyer, Robert Odanga, she indicated she is no longer interested in acquiring Belovedjohn´s body asking the Nigerian embassy to feel free to do as they please with the body.

You can hold the body and do with it as you please.

The letter further indicated that the singer or her family should never be contacted regards the body because she has completely detached herself from it.

According to her, she needs peace to be able to go through her pregnancy successfully.

She will now try to move on and should not be contacted by anyone in regard to the burial.

The singer and her lawyer had tried to have the court ask that the Nigeria Embassy in Nairobi foots the morgue bills and duly hand over the deceased´s body for burial.

Something she will no longer be pursuing because it has proven an uphill task for her and she needs to move on with her life.

Plus, the embassy became unwelcoming of Ruth Matete and her representatives.

Fresh details on Ruth Matete’s late husband emerge

Ever since Ruth Matete’s husband demise, a lot of controversy has surrounded the incident.

It now arises that the late Pastor Belovedjohn did not want his family back in Nigeria, to be informed about his burn injury.

Ruth Matete’s lawyer, Robert Odanga told the Sunday Nation that the deceased had requested his gas explosion accident remain a secret, to avoid ‘worrying’ his family.

He requested her not to tell his family what happened because he did not want them to get worried.

Mr Odanga however stated that the Nigerian pastor was in communication with his family, having talked to his brother, within the first week since the incident.

Belovedjohn assured his family he would recover and all would be well, just before things got worse.

In his first week in hospital, he video called his brother to assure the family that he was on the road to recovery. That was before his wounds became septic and his kidney’s started failing.

His unstable condition saw him breathe his last on Saturday, the 11th of April.

They were aptly informed when he died.

Further revealing that the Pastor’s family breathed fire for being misinformed about his condition, but they eventually understood.

Vincent Korir, the Athi River DCI chief, said no charges will be filed against the singer, until postmortem results are out.

Nigerian Embassy

Meanwhile, Nigerian High Commission in Nairobi stopped any postmortem tests from being conducted on him, after allegations that the singer was a suspect in his death.

The Nigerian embassy had last week held Apewajoye’s remains at the Kenyatta National Hospital morgue.

However, Nigerian High Commissioner, Mahmoud Lawal told the Nation that they will no longer present an independent pathologist for the postmortem exam.

The embassy said it will instead rely on information presented to them by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

A postmortem scheduled for today, with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority to make a report so as to determine any foul play.

Details: DCI detectives get involved in Ruth Matete’s late husband’s death

Following the controversy surrounding Ruth Matete’s husband’s death, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since been at the scene of the gas explosion.

Thursday, the 16th of April, the detectives paid Ruth Matete a visit at her home where a gas explosion had her late husband suffer burn injuries.

The team collected exhibits inclusive of a gas cylinder and other samples to establish the root cause of the accident.

This is after Apewajoye’s alleged manager and friend, Jesse McJessy accused the singer of trying to cover up the cause of her hubby’s death.

Account

The Kenyan artist wrote a statement, to give an account of the happening of events on the fateful evening – 30th March at around 5 pm.

According to Ruth Matete, the late Belovedjohn sustained injuries while trying to light their 6kg gas cylinder, after a refill.

The late Belovedjohn

The gas was full and he had tried to release some of it.

Immediately after, he tried to light the gas and that is when it exploded.

The singer then started screaming and running towards the bedroom to get a duvet to cover her hubby who only had a pair of trousers on.

Pastor John was then rushed to Shalom hospital where he stayed briefly before being moved to the High Dependency Unit at Bellevue South hospital.

Here, he developed complications that had him rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on the 5th of April.

Medics at KNH divulged to Ruth that it was wrong for Bellevue to admit her hubby without a burns unit.

Something that might have probably worsened his condition.

They said my husband had not been receiving enough water at Bellevue Hospital which led to his kidney failure. They also failed to take care of his wounds so they became septic.

Investigations

Matete’s lawyer, Robert Odanga stated that a postmortem to determine the deceased’s demise is set to be conducted.

But once the Nigerian embassy had granted the go-ahead.

The embassy is still holding the body at KNH mortuary after a video was released by one of its citizens questioning the circumstances behind his death.

Meanwhile, the gospel singer has already filed complaints against the gas company and Bellevue hospital.

According to Bellevue Hospital, Pastor Beloved john only sustained 40 per cent burns but KNH reports indicated he sustained 60 per cent burns.

Why so wicked? A section of Nigerians mock Ruth Matete amid husband’s loss

On Sunday, Ruth Matete lost her Nigerian husband, Beloved John but a couple of Nigerians took the opportunity to instead backlash the Kenyan singer.

Ruth and her late hubby, Pastor Beloved John tied the knot in November 2019, in a ceremony criticized by many, who branded her a ‘husband-snatcher’.

Pastor John was allegedly still married to one Juliet Aihinomo Idehen with whom they sired two children.

However, the Nigerian pastor still thanked all his haters, affirming that him and his wife – Ruth Matete – were doing good and would continue doing well through God’s blessings.

Hubby’s note

Sadly though, however inhumane one can get, there are times when compassion needs to precede cruelty and for Ruth Matete, the time is now for her critics to just take a back seat.

Instead of standing in solidarity with her, as she grieved her late husband, who has left her carrying their unborn child, some Nigerians took a swipe at the Kenyan gospel singer.

An online user lashed:

Ruth, you refused to tell John the truth. John was married here in Nigeria, blessed with two lovely kids.he abandoned his family in Nigeria and pitch a tenth with you.for you not have tell him the TRuth…God will surely asked you someday. Even after we his family members called you, send you messages on Facebook to desist from this act, you still hold on to another’s woman’s husband.

Cautioning her that a man’s unjust ways lead to destruction. Before urging her to repent and ask John’s ‘other wife’ for forgiveness.
