Lerato Sengadi delivers emotional tribute to late husband, HHP

HHP’s wife, Lerato Sengadi delivered an emotional tribute during his memorial service held in Johannesburg yesterday.

HHP died last week Wednesday, in what still remains as unclear circumstances.

In her tribute, Lerato said: “I’ve lost a husband, my best friend, my comedian, my favourite artist, my Scrabble mate, the love of my life.

“I loved when you didn’t love yourself. I loved you, when you thought you didn’t deserved to be loved. I loved you when others thought that you were unlovable. I loved you when others were scared to love you.

“I fought for you when I had to be a one-woman-army against so many that tried to tarnish your name. I loved you through happiness and pain, highs and lows, darkness and light, fear and pride.”

Solace

“I find solace in knowing that even during you last, your very very last breath you knew that.

“You were so easy to love that even when you thought it was difficult, it actually wasn’t. You were, and will always be one of the kindest and selfless, undeniably loving people that God has ever, ever, ever, ever put on this earth.”

Lerato thanked God for allowing her to share special moments with HHP.

“People go through their lives searching for their soulmate, and we found each other. What a blessing.

“Our love is one written about in novels, sang about in songs, and acted out in movies. It is a love that people can only dream about.”

She hopes to be strong and continue to protect him and his legacy in death like she did when he was alive.

“You know that I am a fighter who will stop at nothing to do what is right for you. I will take the lashings with the integrity and grace of the warrior queen you choose to share the throne with.

“I know you will come and visit me in my dreams often, I know you will never leave me. You never have.”

Reason pours out his heart to the late HHP

Reason is in a lot of pain following HHP’s death.

In a post on social media, he described HHP as his big brother and took time to reflect on a trip they took in 2015.

“It was like going on a road trip with my big brother for the first time in forever,” he said.

HHP was an open book who gave an abundance of love.

“He definitely had his fair share of controversies and mistakes but my ni**a gave love. Real, pure, uncut, honest and genuine love always. Even when he needed it, he always chose to give it,” Reason added.

HHP contacted his Insurance before his death

Jabulani ‘HHP’ Tsambo contacted his financial advisor to ask whether his policies would pay out should he commit suicide.

In an interview with media personality Gareth Cliff on online radio CliffCentral in 2016, the rapper revealed that in 2015 he tried to commit suicide three times.

“Let me tell you why, because radio started to play trap music a lot, and I’m like, I cannot do trap music… that is not what black excellence is about, that is not what I think Steve Biko died for,” he said.

Cliff then interjected by saying: “But you don’t want to kill yourself over that.”

“I did, because I was like, I’m not getting gigs now, like, I’m old school. I have to either get with the programme,” HHP said

He revealed that he had sought counselling but “it was just costing a lot of money, R800 bucks every time I have to see this guy”.

“The reason also why I wanted to do it, I was getting less gigs now, I still had my policies all in check, like every month I’d get that big gig and I’d be set for like two months. While I still had my policies in check I phoned my financial guy ‘Do you cover suicide?’, he’s like ‘Yeah but you not going to be the one getting the money right’. I was yeah it’s cool because he told me there was another client of his who committed suicide, sorted. Like, my son is still going to school till he’s 28, even if he fails or he gets on drugs because his dad is dead, he’d still go to school till he’s 28, he’d get his R5 million.”

The musician died at 38 years old on Tuesday.

HHP struggle with depression

HHP had detailed his struggle with depression, over the span of his career

In an interview in 2016, he revealed that he had tried to commit suicide three times in 2015 alone.

He said the first of those two suicide attempts came as he was struggling to get gigs and radio stations were not playing his music any more.

On the first attempt, Jabba said he waited for his children to go to school, went into his garage and tried committing suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning, which did not work after an hour of inhaling the gas. He then asked his friend for his car to attempt the suicide again, which did not work.

The third and last time he tried suicide in 2015 was after he had had a “silly” fight with his then girlfriend. He waited for her to leave the house and tried helium poisoning, which also failed.

HHP said he had prepared for his death as he called his financial manager before and asked him if they covered suicide. He said he made sure his son’s education fund was also in check, as he could go to school until he was 28.
