19 year old virgin picked to be King Mswati’s 14th wife (Photos)

Swaziland’s King Mswati is on track to match or even surpass his father’s record of 70 wives. The 49 year old king recently picked his 14th wife who is only 19 years old.

Mswati usually hosts a traditional reed ceremony popularly known as the Umhlanga Annual Reed Dance where he gets to pick a new wife every year. He now has 14 wives.

The Swazi King recently picked 19 year old virgin Siphelele Mashwama to be his 14th wife. Mashwama is the daughter of a Swaziland cabinet minister Jabulile Mashwama.

Mashwama was chosen and given red feathers known as ’emagwalagwala’ plucked from a bird that is associated with the royal family.

Hundreds of girls usually participate in the Umhlanga Annual Reed Dance but only one gets to be chosen to be the king’s wife.

Mswati’s 14th wife graduated from Swaziland’s Waterford Kamhlaba World University College, she is currently in the United States with her husband who is attending the United Nations general assembly.
