Benga singer exiled in Tanzania reveals how he ended up with a song disparaging Raila Odinga

Benga singer Atomy Sifa whose real name is Tom Mboya Ang’ang’a exiled Kenya after supporters of Raila Odinga started baying for his blood for undermining the Luo kingpin in a song.

Atomy Sifa together with Tede ja Kenya composed a song in praise of Uhuru Kenyatta, the same song ‘Uhuru Nyale’ (Uhuru is capable) also criticizes Raila Odinga and urges Luo people to stop following him.

Sifa went to exile in Tanzania after receiving threats from several people who accused him of showing Raila in bad light and betraying the Luo community.

Atomy has since explained that he was tricked into disparaging Raila Odinga by fellow musician. He stated he didn’t know what the song was all about.

“I never knew what the song was all about. I was invited to be part of the video but later realised it was disparaging Mr Odinga. I never knew what the song was all about. I was invited to be part of the video but later realised it was disparaging Mr Odinga,” Atomy Sifa told Nation.

Nation also uncovered forces behind the song, the daily said that National Intelligence Service (NIS) settled on Atomy Sifa and Tede ja Kenya to mock Raila Odinga after failing to strike a deal with several other Luo singers.

Apparently agents from NIS approached two other Luo singers at a meeting held at Choma Zone Hotel along Thika Road but they failed to agree on the monetary terms as the two were quoting higher cash than the agents were willing to pay.

Sifa, who was present at the first meeting, agreed to vilify Raila Odinga in the song in a second meeting which was organized after the first one failed to yield anything.

Nation states that Sifa quoted a very low sum, way below what other musicians had quoted, which the NIS agents promptly agreed to.

A contract was then handed over to the Sifa to sign before he was given the cash he demanded. The NIS agents gave Sifa an already written lyrics and was told that he was to sing them without changing anything in the lyrics.

The video for the song was also made and was uploaded on YouTube by the agents and quickly shared online by Jubilee bloggers.
