Jaguar finally declares his stand on SRC’s new proposed salary package for MPs

Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Sarah Serem intends to reduce lawmakers’ salary but a section of legislators are adamant that their salaries shouldn’t be slashed at all while others support the move.

SRC unveiled a new pay structure before August 8th election that slashed MPs salaries from Kes 710,000 to Kes 621, 250 per month.

Sitting allowances for committee meetings were fixed at a maximum of Kes 80,000 for members and Kes 128,000 for chairpersons while mileage reimbursement was removed.

MPs also lost their car grant of Kes 5 million and will instead be entitled to a Kes 7 million car loan in addition to Kes 20 milliom mortgage.

So far Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Starehe MP Jaguar are the only lawmakers who have publicly supported SRC’s new salary package for MPs.

“Just to categorically state; I am not in support of a pay rise. Count me out. #MPsPay #mwamkompya #starehe,” Jaguar tweeted.

The Starehe MP was however forced to clearly state his position as his earlier tweet was clearly understood by some people.
