John Kiriamiti was one of the most notorious gangsters in Kenya during the 1960s and 1970s. The gangster-turned-author detailed his life in crime in the books he wrote.
Kiriamiti turned to writing while serving term at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison. He was arrested in November 1970 on the eve of his wedding.
John Kiriamiti has written at least 7 books; My Life in Crime – 1980, My Life with a Criminal: Milly’s Story- 1984 Son of Fate – 1994, The Sinister Trophy – 2000, My Life in Prison – 2004, The Abduction Squad and City Carjackers.
My Life In Crime was the book that made Kiriamiti become a famous author. The book is a fictionalized account of Kiriamiti’s criminality in Kenya. The novel details Kiriamiti’s crimes under the alias Jack Zollo that led to his imprisonment.
Production company AfreDev has made Kiriamiti’s bestseller into a movie. AfreDev optioned the TV rights to the novel plus its sequel My Life with a Criminal: Milly’s Story for a TV show set to air locally from June 2018.
